Introduction to Gorgan University of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources

Gorgan University of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (established in 1957) is the first higher education institution in agricultural and natural resources sciences, holding the top rank in the country in both agriculture and natural sciences. The university focuses on practical and scientific fields, education, research, and training of specialists in agriculture and natural resources.

Presently, the university has 4,000 students (38% are graduate students), 170 professors, and 187 faculty members. According to conducted research, this institution has published 10,150 scientific articles in domestic journals and conferences [3,767 journal articles and 6,383 conference papers] and 2,497 recognized international articles. It is also the owner and publisher of 13 specialized journals. To date, 12 conferences have been held at the university. The university has signed over 60 agreements with 20 countries and more than 10 Erasmus and Molana contracts with the European Union.

This institution offers admissions for bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees.

Faculties

This university has 9 faculties and 23 specialized departments across 2 campuses.

Faculty of Fisheries and Environment:
The Faculty of Fisheries and Environment consists of 5 educational groups: Aquatic Reproduction and Breeding, Aquatic Production and Exploitation, Fisheries Products Processing, Environmental Design and Evaluation, and Wildlife Management. It is equipped with three laboratories for Animal Sciences and Wildlife Health, Environmental Pollution, and Genetics. Other specialized labs include Hydrobiology and Ichthyology, Phycolab (Algae Cultivation), Food Chemistry, Genetics, Aquatic Capture, Aquaculture, and Zebra Fish.

Faculty of Forest Sciences:
The Faculty of Forest Sciences consists of 2 groups: Forestry and Forest Science and Ecology, with 13 faculty members.

Faculty of Food Industries:
This faculty operates with two departments: Food Science & Industry, and Material Engineering & Food Industry Design, alongside 13 faculty members. It has 4 active specialized laboratories for educational and research purposes.

Faculty of Plant Production:
The Faculty of Plant Production operates with 4 educational departments: Agronomy, Plant Breeding and Biotechnology, Plant Protection, and Horticultural Sciences and Landscape Engineering, with 38 faculty members.

Faculty of Agricultural Management:
This faculty consists of two departments: Agricultural Economics, and Agricultural Extension & Education. It has 9 faculty members.

Faculty of Rangeland and Watershed Management:
The Faculty of Rangeland and Watershed Management includes three educational departments: Rangeland Management, Watershed Management, and Desert Management. It has 16 faculty members.

Faculty of Wood and Paper Engineering:
The Faculty of Wood and Paper Engineering consists of two groups: Wood Technology and Engineering, and Paper Engineering Sciences along with 15 faculty members, offering both undergraduate and graduate programs.

Faculty of Animal Sciences:
This faculty consists of two departments: Animal & Poultry Nutrition and Animal & Poultry Breeding, and Physiology, with 13 faculty members. The faculty has 5 laboratories for Nutrition, Physiology, Genetics and Biotechnology, Microbiology, and Honeybees, and it also operates two educational and research farms for livestock and poultry with advanced equipment.

Faculty of Water and Soil Engineering:
This faculty operates with three departments: Water Engineering, Soil Sciences, and Biosystems Mechanical Engineering, along with 26 faculty members.
