Arak University Arak University is one of the major public universities in Iran, located in the city of Arak. Introduction

Arak University is one of the top universities in Iran, offering admission to over 150 majors across all academic levels. Currently, there are 7,160 students and 521 professors actively engaged in this institution. Based on the conducted analyses, this center has published 5,102 scientific articles in domestic journals and conferences.

Arak University owns and publishes 12 specialized journals and has organized 8 conferences to date. In addition, 6,160 valid international articles have been extracted from this institution. In the year 1402 (2023), researchers from Arak University published the majority of their articles with keywords “SELF” and “virtual education.

This university, which is now considered the largest and most reputable higher education center in the province, began its activities in 1350 (1971) under the name “Arak School of Sciences,” affiliated with Tehran Teacher Training University In 1368 (1989), this institution became an independent university and started its activities under the name “Arak Teacher Training University. In 1375 (1996), with the implementation of development plans and the addition of several new faculties and academic majors, the comprehensive university in Arak underwent a change in its title.

Since 2010, QS has independently evaluated universities worldwide. According to the 2023 QS World University Rankings, out of 760 Asian universities, Arak University has achieved a ranking between 651-700. Among Iranian universities included in this ranking, Arak University has secured the 12th position.

According to the results of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings announced in 2022, Arak University has achieved a ranking of 1201+ among 1600 universities from 99 countries worldwide. It is worth mentioning that in this ranking, 58 universities from Iran were included, and Arak University managed to secure the 46th position among these universities.

Furthermore, Arak University has achieved a ranking of 801-1000 in the field of Engineering and Technology (General Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Chemical Engineering). Faculties

Basic Science

This faculty, located in the central campus of Arak University, spans an area of 3,800 square meters. Currently, it offers programs in 6 educational groups and 11 academic majors at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. The faculty is equipped with various facilities, including a defense hall, a computer site for graduate and doctoral students, audiovisual classrooms, a psychology laboratory, a studio, and a well-equipped photography laboratory. These facilities provide a conducive environment for students to engage in their academic activities. It is worth mentioning that the Physical Education group has been relocated to Sardasht with the establishment of the Faculty of Sports Sciences, separate from this faculty. The Faculty of Literature and Languages, on the other hand, is still located in the same place, but it operates with separate academic structure and a separate dean.

Technical Engineering

The Faculty of Technical Engineering is one of the newest faculties of Arak University, established in 2006. It is located in the Sardasht campus. However, the faculty’s existence predates its official establishment, as it was previously active in a rented location. This faculty has 7 educational groups, and it is in this location that the most specialized facilities and laboratories are situated.

The Faculty of Technical and Engineering was approved in 2000 and became operational with 11,000 square meters of educational and support facilities. It was relocated from the old rented building to a new location in the Sardasht campus.

Faculty of Basic Sciences

The Faculty of Basic Sciences was approved in 2002 and became operational with 12,000 square meters of educational and support facilities. It was relocated from the central building to a new location in the Sardasht campus. This faculty has 4 educational groups in the undergraduate level, including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, with 7 specializations. In the master’s level, it has 4 educational groups with 24 specializations. In the doctoral level, it offers various specializations. The faculty offers specializations in Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Theoretical Physics, Solid State Physics, Particle Physics, and Cellular Evolutionary Biology. It caters to students in both day and evening programs at various levels, utilizing the designated resources and equipment for each educational group.

Economics and Administrative Sciences

The Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences was inaugurated in 2018, but the building of this faculty has been almost as old as the establishment of the university itself. This faculty initially started its activities with the fields of Law and Economics, but in 2018, the field of Industrial Management was also added to it. With the approval of the Supreme Council for Expansion of the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology, the field of Political Science was also added to the capacity and range of fields in this faculty.

Literature and Foreign Languages

In the joint meeting of the esteemed university managers and the respected executive board in the month of Shahrivar 1395 (August/September 2016), the proposal for establishing the Faculty of Literature and Foreign Languages was raised and received positive feedback from the university authorities. Finally, the esteemed university council approved the establishment of the Faculty of Literature and Foreign Languages. Currently, this faculty has nearly 900 students who are studying in three levels: Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D.

Agriculture and Environmental Sciences

The establishment of this faculty dates back to 2001, and it is currently active with 7 educational departments. The current location of this faculty is somewhat standard, but due to the inherently semi-centralized nature of agricultural fields and the presence of a greenhouse training unit located on the main campus site, there is also a farm and a training workshop covering an area of 160 hectares. This land is dedicated to the university as an endowment and is leased annually to individuals outside the university.

Humanities Science

Sports Science

This faculty was established in 2016 (1395 in the Persian calendar) The Physical Education department was active within the Faculty of Humanities before the establishment of the Faculty of Sports Sciences. However, with the construction of the new faculty, it has been relocated to Sardasht. This faculty is equipped with a specialized sports hall that has the best sports facilities. It is currently active with three specializations.

Art

Currently, three majors have been defined within the structure of the Faculty of Art. The focus is on indigenous, national, practical, and entrepreneurial-oriented arts in order to expand and develop artistic endeavors, as well as to contribute to sustainable development.
