The University of Sistan and Baluchestan is a public university in Zahedan, Sistan and Baluchestan province. It was established in 1974 as a Faculty of Engineering when it began its activities. In 2005, the University of Sistan and Baluchestan was recognized as the leading university in the province, meeting the necessary criteria to join the ranks of the country’s developed universities, and it was classified as a top-tier university in Iran. Introduction
Currently, the University of Sistan and Baluchestan is recognized as a comprehensive university and the scientific hub of the southeastern region of the country. This center now includes 12 faculties along with an international campus and 4 research institutes, where over 22,000 students are enrolled, and 385 faculty members are actively engaged. So far, 17,210 domestic scientific articles and 3,900 ISI articles from this center have been published in national and international journals and conferences.
The university began its activities in 1974 under the name University of Baluchestan with the establishment of the Civil Engineering program as part of the Faculty of Engineering in the city of Zahedan. Later, in 1977, the Faculty of Maritime and Marine Sciences in Chabahar was founded, and in 1986 and 1989, the Faculties of Basic Sciences and Agriculture in Zabol were launched, respectively.
Finally, in 1991, following the resolution of the Higher Education Development Council on the integration of teacher training universities in local universities, the Teacher Training University of Zahedan, with over 2,000 students in 9 disciplines, was merged with the University of Sistan and Baluchestan. The basic sciences programs of the Teacher Training University joined the Faculty of Sciences at the University of Sistan and Baluchestan, while the humanities programs formed the Faculty of Literature and Humanities.
Ranking of the University of Sistan and Baluchestan
In the latest ISC ranking, this university is ranked as the 12th top university in Iran. In 2005, based on 26 criteria set by the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology, it was elevated from a “developing” university to a “developed” university, which led to an improvement in its ranking. Currently, the University of Sistan and Baluchestan is classified as a top-tier (Category A) university in the country.

The total area of the University of Sistan and Baluchestan is 194 hectares, with over 80 hectares of green space. Dormitories of the University of Sistan and Baluchestan
This university has many students from all over Iran and offers special dormitory facilities. The university has made the necessary arrangements to provide better services for both female and male students in the dormitory environment. The dormitory center of the University of Sistan and Baluchestan has over 35 dormitory blocks located both on-campus and off-campus, ready to accommodate students.
There are 29 dormitories in the university campus and 6 in the city. The city dormitories operate independently, with five buildings designated for female students and one dormitory for male students. Therefore, female applicants do not need to worry about accommodation in the province and can easily continue their studies after being admitted to the best university in southeastern Iran.
