Arak includes one international airport which is one of the first airports established in Iran. The date of establishment of this airport is not exactly known, but the official date of its opening goes back to 1317/1938, although there have been reports of the presence of airplanes in this city much earlier than this date. Before the implementation of the runway extension project, this airport was only for domestic flights and medium-sized, transport and military planes, and it was not possible to accommodate wide-body planes.
In the 1392 solar year, with the full implementation of the expansion plan of Arak airport in the section of raising, expanding, and strengthening the runway, it became possible to accept airplanes up to Airbus class at the city airport. Now this airport has weekly flights to Tehran, Mashhad, and Asalouye.
Arak has long been located on the route of the nationwide railway from north to south of Iran, and the railway has played an important role in the all-round prosperity of the city.
