Alzahra University, a women-only university located in Vanak Village, Tehran, was established in 1964. At that time, it began its operations with 90 students under the name “Higher School for Girls,” offering programs such as foreign language translation, secretarial studies, and psychology as well as a course titled ‘Home Economics’. Studying at Alzahra University can be a great starting point for international female students, providing a safe environment for their academic journey.
Introduction
This institution was renamed Alzahra University in the 1975 academic year. By 1977, it continued its activities as a collection of four faculties: Basic Sciences, Literature and Humanities, Management Sciences, and Economics. In 1986, these faculties were reorganized into the faculties of Basic Sciences, Social and Economic Sciences, Literature, and Arts. By 1994, the faculties of Educational Sciences and Psychology, Physical Education and Sports Sciences, and Engineering were separately established.
In 2001, the Faculty of Theology and Literature was divided into two faculties after receiving the Ministry’s approval: the Faculty of Literature, Languages, and History, and the Faculty of Theology. In 2014, with the division of the Faculty of Basic Sciences into three separate faculties—Mathematics, Biological Sciences, and Physics & Chemistry—the number of faculties increased to 10.
Ranking of Alzahra University
Alzahra University ranked between 201 and 300 among 460 universities worldwide in the first University Impact Ranking by Times Higher Education. According to this ranking, Sharif University placed second among universities in the country, following Iran University of Medical Sciences. A total of 12 universities from Iran were included in this ranking.
