Transportation

Airport

Yazd International Airport was established in 1969 on a land area of 575 hectares, located on the southern edge of Iran’s central desert approximately at the geographical center of Iran, and about 3.5 nautical miles (around 10 kilometers) west of the city center. The runway length is 4,100 meters, and its width is 60 meters (15 meters for the shoulder). This airport is situated at the intersection of major north-south transport axes, and international airways UL125 and UL124, as well as domestic routes R663, R654, and W5 pass over it, so most domestic and foreign aircraft, including military and civilian ones, fly through the airport’s airspace.

In addition to scheduled and non-scheduled flights currently in operation, this airport can be used for emergency aircraft operations.

Railway

Connecting to the railway transport network for passenger and freight transport is a dream for every citizen. People of the province saw their wish for a railway fulfilled on May 22, 1971. However, the southeast railway project, envisioned under the name Qom-Zarand railway, began in 1938 and a significant portion of its infrastructure activities was completed. Still, due to the political situation in the country during those years, its inauguration and operation were postponed until 1971.

With the dawn of the Industrial Revolution and the establishment of the Isfahan Steel Factory, the need to access mineral resources like coal and iron ore led officials to prioritize this massive economic project. All technical operations and surveys were completed by Iranian engineers and workers within a very short time.

Passenger Terminal

In a land area of 57 hectares located between the industrial town road and the transit road and Shahid Dehghan Boulevard which belonged to the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, the legal acquisition process was completed. Construction operations for the terminal began on April 14, 1998, and on January 5, 2010, service to the public started at the new terminal after the old terminal was closed. The terminal’s total area is about 14,000 square meters, including the building, central courtyard, and corridors.
