Zanjan University was established in 1974 with the aim of nurturing talents through education and scientific research to help equip and supply the specialized human resources needed by the country, as well as to create research facilities to identify unknown potential factors and to enhance scientific capabilities in various fields in the city of Zanjan. In terms of size, this university is the second largest in Iran after Isfahan University of Technology. Introduction
This university, covering an area of over 400 hectares, has very high capacities for the development of suitable educational and welfare spaces for students. Its appropriate facilities and very green environment, located outside the city, provide a suitable setting for students to focus on learning and conducting research away from the hustle and bustle of urban life. Currently, there are 10,020 students and 384 faculty members active at this institution.
Based on the analyses conducted, this center has published 12,725 scientific articles in domestic journals and conferences to date. Zanjan University is the owner and publisher of six specialized journals and has held 27 conferences so far. Faculty of Engineering
The Faculty of Engineering began its activities in 1987 by establishing a technical college at the associate degree level with 43 students and 2 full-time faculty members. Subsequently, educational groups in Electrical Engineering, Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, and Surveying were established and began admitting students. Currently, there are 9 fields and 11 specializations at the master’s degree level in the Faculty of Technical and Engineering Sciences.

Electrical engineering in two specializations: electronics and power, mechanical engineering with a focus on applied design, civil engineering in four specializations: structures, soil mechanics and foundations, hydraulic structures, and transportation engineering, surveying engineering (geodesy), computer engineering with a specialization in software, mining engineering with a focus on rock mechanics, architecture, chemical engineering, and painting.
Doctoral programs
With the approval of the doctoral programs in Power Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering-Geotechnics, Civil Engineering-Water and Hydraulic Structures, Civil Engineering-Road and Transportation, and Civil Engineering-Structures, the number of doctoral programs in this faculty has increased to seven.
Humanities science faculty
The Faculty of Humanities at Zanjan University began its educational activities in 1991 by admitting 43 students in the field of Persian Language and Literature Teaching. Subsequently, with the recruitment of faculty members in various specialties, the faculty expanded. Currently, this faculty offers 14 programs in 17 fields of study across three levels: associate degree, bachelor’s degree, and master’s degree, as detailed below.
The Faculty of Humanities has 9 educational groups and 14 academic fields, including: Accounting, Business Management, Industrial Management, Human Geography, Rural Geography, Physical Geography, Cartography, Climatology, Geomorphology, History and Islamic Civilization, Philosophy and Islamic Wisdom, Physical Education, English Language, Persian Language and Literature, General Psychology, and Counseling and Guidance. Currently, students are being admitted in the educational groups of Persian Language and Literature, Philosophy and Islamic Wisdom, Geography, History and Islamic Civilization, History of Iran (Master’s degree), Physical Education and Sports Sciences with a specialization in Sports Physiology (Master’s degree), and Psychology at the graduate level (Master’s degree). Additionally, doctoral students are being admitted in the field of Persian Literature, and in the near future, this will also be realized in the groups of Geography and Philosophy.
College of Science
The Faculty of Sciences at Zanjan University began its educational activities in the academic year 1989-1990 with the establishment of a Bachelor’s program in Pure Chemistry, enrolling 44 students and employing 6 full-time faculty members. Following this, the faculty admitted students in the fields of Chemistry Teaching, Physics Teaching, Mathematics Teaching, Geology, Biology, as well as in Pure Chemistry, Pure Mathematics, Physics, Applied Mathematics, and Applied Chemistry (both daytime and evening programs) at the undergraduate level. The programs in Physical Chemistry and Mathematics commenced their graduate-level educational activities with student admissions in 1994 and 2000, respectively, and in 2001, the faculty began accepting students for a doctoral program in Inorganic Chemistry.
The Faculty of Sciences currently has 7 educational groups with 18 fields of study at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. The number of faculty members in this faculty exceeds 59, and the total number of students in the Faculty of Sciences is 430 boys and 1,074 girls.
Faculty of Agriculture
The Faculty of Agriculture at Zanjan University began its educational activities in the academic year 1976-1975 with 63 students and 6 full-time faculty members in two undergraduate programs: Agricultural Management and Animal Husbandry Management. Subsequently, programs in Agricultural Extension and Education, Horticulture, Plant Protection, Soil Science, and Beekeeping were established. Currently, with the expansion of this faculty, there are 8 educational groups at the undergraduate level, namely: Agronomy and Plant Breeding, Animal Sciences, Agricultural Extension and Education, Horticultural Sciences, Plant Protection, Soil Science, Water, and Food Industries, which are engaged in educating students. Additionally, the Faculty of Agriculture offers 19 specializations at the master’s level and 7 specializations at the doctoral level for student education.
